The collaboration between the Forest Skis brand and the indigo dye artistisan Matej Rabada, created several products – skis, snowboards and longboards. These are unique in the world. They combine functionality, design and craft into one.
With this Collection of sports products with an original indigo dyed flax surface, we got into the finals in the Sports and Leisure category in the National Design Award 2021 – Product Design competition.
This great news is an encouragement and motivation for us to continue working.
We used indigo dyed flax fiber on the surface of the products. The material we created is a technical fiber and an aesthetic material at the same time. It enables a wide application, which we try to use in full – from surface technical material in skis, snowboards and longboards, to the use of “waste” textiles from test prints in other applications such as scarves, shirts or dresses.
Flax fiber is currently considered one of the latest environmentally friendly high-tech materials in the field of composite engineering. It is a natural ecological material characterized by strength and dampening properties.
,, These products bring clients a unique riding experience. The unique composition of materials gives our products features that get the enjoyment of riding to a new level, ” adds Viktor Devečka, the main developer of Forest Skis. The printing of flax fiber is made using the technique of the original Slovak indigo-dyed printing by Matej Rabada, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
“Getting among the finalists is like a win for me,” says Matej Rabada, who does not hide his joy.
From September 24, 2021, you can see skis, longboards and snowboards live at the National Design Award 2021 – Product Design exhibition in Hurban’s Barracks on Kollárovo námestie 10 in Bratislava. The overall results will be announced on October 8, 2021.
